This Girl…

Prompt: Design the Costumes for the Play This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing by Finegan Kruckemeyer

This Girl Laughs, This Girl Cries, This Girl Does Nothing is a children's play that follows the journey of three triplet sisters as they venture out into the world, each facing challenges in her own unique way. As they grow, each sister is shaped by her experiences and the people she meets, gradually losing parts of herself along the way. When the time comes to return home, each begins to reconnect with the qualities she left behind, rediscovering who she has always been while embracing who she has become. Their eventual reunion completes this circular journey, celebrating growth, change, and the understanding that identity is formed by both where you come from and the experiences that shape you.

The Idea

Each sister is represented through three distinct stages: her origin, her transformation, and her reintegration. While each character maintains a consistent visual identity throughout the production, additional costume elements are introduced during the transformation stage to reflect her evolving personality and experiences. In the final stage, these costume pieces are reworked and balanced with elements from the sisters' original looks, visually expressing how they reconnect with their past while embracing the people they have become.
